Court Ordered Class

The Meth Free Project graduated forty four clients at the Court Ordered Class held on June 21st at First Baptist Church of Bartow. Over ninety percent of the class showed a significant increase in knowledge of meth and what it does to the brain and body by their pre and post test results.

Comments from the clients included: “This class has really opened my eyes about meth. I wish I could have talked some of my friends into coming.” “I would like to volunteer!” “Really informative video. I never knew any of that stuff I heard.” “Medically informative.” “I think it was very informational, more so than any other info I had on meth in the past years.” “I never knew half of the information presented to me in this
‘High Is A Lie DVD’”. “Everything that y’all do here is okay by me.” “Good educational presentation.” “This movie was very straight forward. I like that.”

“It’s always such a blessing to see the clients leave feeling differently than when they came in. Just being able to let them know that there are people who care about where they are and how they are is huge to us. People are perishing because of a lack of knowledge and we will continue our diligence to educate as many people as we can.” Kathi (Staff)

Meth Free Project Education Class

The Meth Free Project graduated sixteen men from the education class in South County Jail on July 6th.

Comments on the class: “I got a lot out of this program. I think this was a great program and especially for people who don’t know what meth is or what and if it’s bad or not. I learned a lot of information that I never knew before about meth. I used cocaine and crack when I was out on the street and I thought that was bad. Meth is something that I’m glad I never used or got into. Thank God for that. I appreciate the Meth Free Project Class for coming into this jail and helping me get more substance abuse education. I plan on not using drugs when I get out and thanks to this class, I’ll never use meth as long as I live.” Kenneth

“I have learned a lot from the Meth Free Program. I have learned about my addiction and how it affects my body. I have seen how drugs affect people in different ways. Everybody reacts differently to drugs. I have seen that recovery is possible and I don’t have to do it alone. I have received a lot of information that has changed my thinking. I now know I suffer from a disease and I am sick. The information taught in this program may have saved my life. I now have a clear picture of where I have been and where I am headed if I don’t change my ways. I also have learned some about spirituality and prayer. I know now that there is a better way then the way I came from, and I realize that if I don’t change my thinking I am headed towards death.” Jimmy

“What I got from this program is more information to help keep me on the sober path in life. I found it very blunt. The message is straight forward and quite unmistakable. All I can say is keep up the good work.” Joshua

“I got a lot out of this program. I really thoroughly enjoyed myself while I learned about the extreme consequences that I and others have paid and many have never been able to pay. The High is a Lie.” Paul

“To be honest, I have never used meth or any other drug but at the same time I always wondered what it would feel like to try it. But after seeing all those people and what the drug really does to you, I change my mind, and to tell you the truth I will never try that drug ever in my life. The one part I can’t understand is how can people sit there and know something that can hurt your body the way it does. My plan is to tell others not to ever use the drug and tell them the effect that it does to your body and hope that they feel the same way that I do about the situation.” Marc

“Taking these classes has taught me what affects this nasty drug has on a person. The chemicals used are killing the people that use them. Take a 20 year old person, and within a short time make them look 40 years old. And their teeth, nasty. People that make and sell this drug should be dealt with hard. They should get a mandatory prison sentence. I know I want to know about all drugs, so I can help someone else not to lose their child.” Sheldon

The Meth Free Project also graduated sixteen females from the education class in Central County Jail on June 25th. Forty three women were in the new class which began on July 2nd. Comments from the June 25th class were: “I found this video very informative. It taught me some new facts about meth that I have never learned before.” “If I would have seen the DVD before I ever used, I would have ‘more than not’ used this drug. I will be telling people about this DVD.” ”Knowledge is power. To know all these horrible things helps me to realize what was going on and why and also how scary the truth is. I definitely do not want to go back to that life or drug.” ”Please continue to show the truth if more of us became part of the solution and less of us were the problem we could lead more of the lost souls back to Jesus.” “The videos were very educational and helpful to my recovery. I will pass this knowledge on. Thank you. “Very educational. Learned a lot of things that will help me say no.” “The DVD that I have seen today is life changing to one that used to do meth and I have learned so much and I thank you for helping me find a new way of life.” “I see this movie once a week and it is the best thing I have ever seen. It makes me look at life a new way.” “I love this information!” “The DVD is very educational to help with my recovery and my ability to help others.”

During week four of the education class, clients are asked to write an essay of three hundred words or less describing “What they got out of the program”. Here are some samples:

“As many years, and I do mean “years” as I’ve been doing drugs and drinking, I can’t remember when I’ve learned so much about drugs. Especially meth. I thank God that I was even here to learn anything! This class gave me so much information, good and bad. I learned that there is really bad damage done- to the brain when using meth even one or two times. I used meth about fifteen to seventeen years. I used it for at least a year daily. I snorted it, smoked it and then finally shot it. I absolutely had no idea what it was doing to my body and mind. I am so grateful for this program and all the people in the video’s and essays. The Meth Free Project class is well worth the time! If I would have been able to participate in it before using, I am almost certain that I would not have used!” Nancy

“I got some excellent scientific information as well as statistics of meth users and how it affects us. I have absolutely no desire to get any more holes in my brain.” Rachel

“This program showed me how to accept my past, and all the events that took place with me and that God (my redeemer) has promised me that I will come through this the woman I was meant to be. The information about what meth, alcohol and other substances, has educated me on how hard they are on the body and mind. How powerful the love of God is. And I got a lot of information on how others feel and what has happened in their lives before and after the using of drugs and alcohol. And how much others care for me and my recovery. It’s a beautiful experience to recover and to work on that everyday and all of the confirmations you receive. I’ve experienced major breakthroughs and I’m so grateful.” Barbara

“I learned a lot about my disease. As an addict I learned that I’m not alone in this addiction. There are many others who suffer from this disease. This program has taught me how to have self respect for myself. And that my life has much significance and that I matter. I am a child of God and that I am precious in His eyes. He will never turn His back to me nor give up on me. I have learned to believe in myself. I am unique of all God’s creations. Nothing can replace me. My target is recovery. I must zero in on that target and go for it.” Deborah

“This program gave me more information than the 90-day treatment center I went to. I no longer want to use drugs and this class has confirmed my deliverance. What I’ve learned I intend to take with me and share with others.” Kristine

“I have received some very great information and education on my addiction. I’ve learned that I am more precious than gold and I have learned to love myself. I have learned how to trust in the Lord and that I matter greatly to Him and that my life with all it’s joy and pain has eternal significance. Thank you Lord for the gift of authentic freedom which prevents either outward pressures or inner urges from completely determining what becomes of me. I learned that even though I cannot always control my circumstances, I still have some choice about my response to them. I have learned that although everything which happens to me is not good, that the Lord is working for my good in all things. I’ve learned that when I do not understand what is happening and I cry out in fear or anger that the Lord will not abandon me, but rather move with me through the anguish enabling me to trust Him beyond any finite knowledge I possess. Lord, give me the courage to walk with you and to love you no matter what.” Kendi

“Well, being the second time attending this class, I got a lot more information again that opened my eyes and mind to the bad effects that is caused by using meth. I also can say that by living a meth life you don’t visualize or realize how you look or how it hurts you and family members. But, this program puts it to you thru the movies and real people it also has affected so now I can see what damage I did. This program opened my eyes to the damage that meth has caused on my body. My health has suffered but with living clean and sober and trusting in God to restore me to sanity I can recover and slowly restore my brain towards being normal as possible. This program will allow me to be more determined to ‘just say no’!” Elizabeth

“It is really sad how it makes you look and feel and you don’t care, you just keep on using. I used meth for 20 years and it’s destroyed my life. Both my parents were addicts. My father died at 32 and my mother at 36. It is sad what children have to go through because of meth, especially the ones that get hurt, burned, or killed in labs. After seeing this film I will not subject my children to that drug in any way again. Thank you for your classes, I’m praying to keep your funds going. It helps people, I know!” Cynthia

“What did I get out of this program? I believe I now have more of an understanding and the knowledge I needed to discourage me from wanting to put such chemicals in my body. And the long term affects it has on my life and my loved ones. I had no idea how harmful it was to my body, and the difference in my personality and my ability to make a rational decision. I believe this program has possibly saved my life and given me the knowledge I need to help others to understand the ‘High Is A Lie”. Life is too short and the moments are too precious.” Tina
